Greetings To Our Empower Learner Supporters,
The Empower staff hope this newsletter finds you all well. This newsletter finds us at the end of our third Learning Block this year. Many of our learners worked hard to meet academic goals while some may have struggled but kept positive attitudes. Block Four will go on for the next eight weeks, and we will be working with our learners to establish their block goals. There has been a lot of learning opportunities inside and outside Empower the last couple of weeks. A small group of learners took a trip to the state capitol as part of the MAAP STARS Legislative Day. Learners were able to tour the state capitol building and meet with our State Senator Jason Rarick. This visit was followed by a trip to Construct for Tomorrow, which is a program to expose high school age learners to the trades. Many of our learners had the chance to experience concrete work, bricklaying, heavy equipment simulation, welding simulation, and electrical. They could talk to many of the union trainers directly about high paying opportunities right out of high school. Jimmie Johnson finished his last cooking class with some learners. It has been an enjoyable experience for the learners who participated, gaining valuable knowledge of economical and nutritious meals. We hope to get Jimmie back in the future to expand on this popular program. Finally, we would like to thank the parents or guardians who were able to stop in for Walking Tacos last Thursday night. It is always a good time for us to chat with those that support our learners. Remember that you do not need to wait for conferences to come to Empower. You are welcome to stop in anytime for a chat about your learner or the program in general. Coming Events: Remember all events are updated on our website.
