One of our favorite days of the year every year is our Thanksgiving Feast where we all come together to plan a menu, shop, make decorations, prepare the meal, eat, share gratitudes, rest, and clean up. It's a great way to head into Thanksgiving Break. As always, this year's meal was a hit.

We have the privilege of a visit from Josh of Fond Du Lac Tribal and Community College today. He spoke with us about the benefits of attending a 2-year college or technical school, whether that be FDLTCC or any other 2-year school. He also let us know about what courses of study FDLTCC has to offer as well as the facilities and extracurriculars. We look forward to Josh's visit every year as he is a very charismatic speaker and has a fun life story to share. Today, some of our learners had the opportunity to visit the Local 49ers Training Center in Cloverdale, MN, where they were able to learn about, climb on, explore, and test drive heavy equipment machines. This is a career interest area for many of our learners, so it was a great chance to get to see the machines up close and personal.
Today, some of our MAAP STARS members had the opportunity to attend WE Day at the Excel Energy Center in St. Paul, where we spent the day listening to some inspiring stories of kids making a difference in the world, as well as watching (and dancing/singing to) some amazing performers. We were inspired into expanding our community service outreach. We hope to make this an annual trip! This evening two standout MAAP STARS members, Janeecka Fisher and Savannah Roseland, stepped up to help serve their community by serving a meal for the annual Finlayson-Giese Lion's Club Deer Hunter's Dinner. Great job, ladies! We are proud of your after-school community service efforts! (And thank you as always to the F-G Lions Club for continuing to support the ELC and MAAP STARS!) |
