Greetings To Our Empower Learner Supporters,
Just a quick newsletter this week. Please take note of the activities highlighted below. NEXT BIG THING: 20 February is ELC Family Dinner and a Movie. From 4pm-8pm we will have Walking Tacos and popcorn with the movie. At 6 pm we will be showing a family-friendly movie (title yet to be determined). We will also have Parent Conferences on 25 February at the ELC Building from 4-6pm. Anita, Agency Wide Advocate from Lakes & Pines CAC will be at Empower at the start of conferences on the 25th if anyone would like to meet with her or has any questions. We have only had one full week since our last progress report, yet many of our learners have been busy earning credits. This week we also welcomed a few new learners. Dillon & Kendra, we are excited to have you join our program. ELC learners have a wide variety of ways to earn their high school credits - ask your learner the most interesting thing they did at Empower this past week and what subject area(s) they are working on to fulfill their credits. Keep in mind, that the simplest way for an Empower Learner to earn credit is through time logs (reading, phy-ed, community service, etc.); encourage them to fill those out (online/paper) and turn them in!!! Coming Events: Remember all events are updated on our website. Feb 17 - No School - President’s/Chief’s Day Feb 19 - MAAP STARS Legislative Day Feb 20 - Construct Tomorrow event at Grand Casino Hinckley Feb 20 - Walking Tacos, and a Movie at ELC (popcorn, too!) - 4-8pm Feb 25 - Conferences in the ELC building- 4-6pm Feb 28 - No School (make up snow day)

Greetings To Our Empower Learner Supporters,
We hope this newsletter finds you well! In January & February, full weeks of school are rare, which brings many challenges. Such as remembering when we do and don’t have school, getting work turned in before progress reports go out, and keeping up on all the fun events happening this time of year. The schedule is on our website, http://weareempower.weebly.com/, and we’ve highlighted some dates to note below. First, there is No School at Empower Feb. 5-7 because Brad, Alyssa, and Randy will be at a state-wide conference for alternative school educators. This mid-winter break is only for Empower learners - all other HF schools are in session those days. Next, our parent/guardian-teacher conference schedule has changed. Thursday, Feb. 20th, is now Family Movie Night from 4-8pm. Anita F from Lakes & Pines CAC will also be here to answer questions and enroll in programs for anyone interested. Conference time to discuss your learner’s progress will then be Tuesday, Feb. 25th 4-6pm. We hope to see you here at Empower one or both nights! Finally, on to what we’ve been up to these past two weeks. Empower learners and staff have been well fed as our kitchen has been busy, busy, busy! Jimmie from UofM Extension Services was here one morning each week. In his classes, our learners made Pineapple Chicken over Rice one week; Breakfast Burritos the next - YUM! As usual, French Toast Tuesday and Waffle Wednesday were quite tasty, and Jezzalyn shared the bread she made for her Biology class. Just yesterday, Jeffery made Pork and Bok Choy Potstickers and Beef Lo Mein. He shared them with learners and staff and recorded our feedback. These recipes were from China as part of his Cooking Around the World project; we’re excited to see where he takes us next on his culinary adventure! Keep an eye on our Empower calendar of events as we have some things happening in February. Feb 5-7 Empower Closed - Staff attend state MAAP Conference Feb 17 No School - Presidents/Chiefs Day (make-up snow day) Feb 19 MAAP STARS State Capital Visit Feb 20 Construct Tomorrow Field Trip for Learners Feb 20 Family Movie Night 4-8pm & Anita F from Lakes & Pines CAC Feb 25 Conferences 4-8pm Feb 28 No School - 2nd make up snow day |
