We at Empower hope this newsletter finds you dug out or at least partially dug out from the snow these last couple of weeks. I think it is safe to say that the holiday season will have plenty of snow this year.
Your calendar should have a big circle around the 19th of Dec. You know it is the internationally acclaimed 9th Annual Empower Christmas Tea. It is a great time to kick off the Christmas break with a fun family get-together. It will be from 12-2:30ish. The learners and staff are preparing heavy appetizers and treats. As always, we have some great reindeer games to bring out smiles and laughs. This year we will also have several door prizes that include a 17lbs Turkey to give away. We hope you and your family can come and celebrate with us.
The Empower Feast the day before Thanksgiving/Miigwech Break was a great day here. Learners did another outstanding job setting up the room and cooking the meal. It was an excellent opportunity to have a sit-down meal and express our thankfulness for what we have. As always, there was plenty of food, smiles, and laughs.
Although the weather did not cooperate for our center-wide snowshoeing trip, we were able to get a few learners out to the school forest for snowshoeing and lunch. It was a great day, and as you can imagine, plenty of snow. The school forest has beautiful scenery this time of year, and we look forward to getting out there a few more times this school year.
A guest speaker from Lakes and Pines stopped by and had a very informative discussion with the learners on services Lakes and Pines has available in Pine and the surrounding counties. She reviewed their housing, energy assistance, food, and other programs available to people living in the area.
Today marks the end of Academic Block 2. A number of our learners successfully reached their goals and will be setting Block 3 goals next week. For those learners that were a little off their pace, we will be reaching out to meet with the parent/guardian to set Block 3 goals Dec. 16th-20th or right after the break on Jan. 2nd-3rd. We will send out texts/calls to set up those meetings and a reminder for the Christmas Tea.
Greetings To Our Empower Learner Supporters, Hello to all of our Empower supporters. We welcome some new families to our group as we have had some new additions to our learner and learner supporter group. Again welcome, and we encourage you to get involved as much as you can with your learner’s educational path. Please feel free to volunteer your talents to expanding all of our learner’s knowledge. It is hard to believe, but we are over halfway through Learning Block 2. Thank all of you for your continued encouragement of our learners. Many have stepped up and are on track to meet their learning goals for this block. We are working with other learners to make some progress in this block. We were visited by Brittany Thomsen this past week. Brittany is the district assigned mental health counselor. She provided our learners with an informative talk about positive mental health and living habits that promote positive mental health. We also celebrate another Empower learner earning their High School diploma. Congratulations, Davonte, and best wishes on your future wherever it may lead you. Lastly, we are looking forward to our 6th annual Empower Feast this Tuesday. It is an excellent time for the Empower learners and staff working together on preparing and then eating a great meal. We will take some time to share memories of this first third of the school year. We also want to remind our Empower supporters of our 9th Annual Christmas Tea - December 19th, 12 pm-3 pm. The Tea is a great event for family and friends and always an excellent way to enter the holiday break. Please plan on attending. Coming Events: Remember all events are updated on our website.
